Preparing Seeds and Handling Oil

Why does food-contact material matter in an oil press?

Direct Answer

Surfaces that touch seeds and oil must be suitable for their intended food use and practical to clean. MMEC describes stainless-steel construction on selected pages, but the materials of individual components should be confirmed.

Detailed Engineering Analysis

Ask for specifications covering the hopper, pressing parts, collection tray, pipework, seals and any coatings. A stainless-steel outer cover does not establish the material or suitability of every internal part. Where SS 304 is claimed, request the relevant documentation and cleaning guidance. Also inspect the design for access and product traps. Treat food-contact suitability as a documented equipment requirement, separate from certification of the oil you eventually produce.
