Starting and Running an Oil Business
Is a cold-pressed oil business profitable and how do I calculate costs?
Direct Answer
Profitability depends on seed cost, saleable yield, selling price, operating expenses and actual sales. No machine capacity or advertised oil margin guarantees monthly profit or a fixed payback period.
Detailed Engineering Analysis
Calculate batch cost as seeds plus energy, labor, packaging, testing, transport and allocated overhead, less any realized net cake proceeds. Divide by the saleable oil quantity for unit cost. Compare that with the price customers actually pay after discounts and selling fees. For a planning example, PKR 30,000 of net batch cost divided by 30 saleable litres equals PKR 1,000 per litre. These figures are illustrative and exclude any item not included in the assumed batch cost.
