Seeds, Nuts and Suitable Applications
Can I use an oilseed press for essential oils or non-edible seeds?
Direct Answer
An oilseed press is designed primarily for fixed oils from suitable seeds and nuts. Essential oils from materials such as aromatic leaves often need a different extraction process. Non-edible applications require separate suitability and contamination controls.
Detailed Engineering Analysis
Identify the plant, the part being processed and the intended end use before requesting equipment. Do not assume leaves, flowers and oilseeds can all be treated alike. If a project involves materials such as castor, neem or jatropha, obtain specialist process advice and keep them separate from food production. Mechanical extraction does not establish that an oil or its cake is edible or appropriate for animal feed.
